Reunion 2016

"When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than ourselves. Our inborn yearnings for family connection are fulfilled when we are linked to our ancestors." Russell M. Nelson

"Family and Fellowship"
A "meet and greet" in the Welcome Center on Wednesday evening officially kicked off our seventh Descendants of Marie Ferree Reunion. Our genealogists and historians were on hand to answer inquiries and share information. Madame Ferree paid us a visit, the store was open to purchase Ferree related merchandise, and refreshments were served.

reunion2016fh2

reunion2016fh5
A memorial ceremony honoring Daniel and Marie Ferree and their family began our Family History and Genealogy Day program on Thursday. With a background of beautiful flute music, white roses were placed in rememberance of each member of the family.

The Ferree Surname Project and DNA testing was the topic of our speaker during the morning session. Discussion groups were formed according to line of descent from each of the Ferree children which provided opportunity to get acquainted with and exchange information with others in that particular line. A delicious buffet lunch was served at noon.

Family History and Genealogy Day - Afternoon Session

During the afternoon session we heard from one of our members about her travel, research, and experiences in France, Germany, and England where the Ferree family actually lived and worked. We viewed copies of Ferree family related documents found by her in those locations.

Valley Forge Tour
Historic Valley Forge was our destination as we boarded the bus on Friday morning. We stepped into history as we rode through the park and our guide described the hardships the troops endured there. His vivid narrative gave us the feeling we were actually there that cold winter of 1777. There were stops at the Brigade Cabins and Washington's headquarters.

Cherry Crest Adventure Farm
reunion2016cc6
We had a great day at Cherry Crest. There was so much to do and their newest attraction, the "racing pigs" was a lot of fun. A "cornfield picnic" lunch that included all of the ice cream we could eat was served in our private tent area. A surprise visit from the Cherry Crest mascot added to the fun. The highlight of the day was a guided tour of the grounds around the Cornelius Ferree house located on Cherry Crest Farm property. The house is a private residence but we were given special permission to visit. After a short wagon ride, we walked around the grounds as our guide narrated the history of the house/land and we were able to view the datestones set on the side of the house. (see below)

Cornelius Ferree was the son of Abraham Ferree, the grandson of Philip Ferree, and the great grandson of Madame Ferree. This limestone house was built on property once owned by Philip Ferree given to him and his wife, Leah Dubois, by his father-in-law, Abraham Dubois. This property was not a part of the original Ferree land grant but borders what was the original Ferree land.
