Historical Paradise Bus Tour - July 27th |
This tour, moderated by Samuel Stoltzfus, took us through the area of the original Ferree land grant and enabled us to view some of the oldest, still remaining, family homesteads and other Ferree related historical sites. Mr. Stoltzfus included several stories of the history of Lancaster county and about his family's relationship with the county and the Ferree family. Stops were made at the Lancaster Historical Society where we were able to view the Lefevre Bible and also at Carpenter's Cemetery where Madame Ferree and some members of her family are buried. |

Underground Railroad Bus Tour - July 27th |
There were Ferree connections to the time in history when slavery existed and through a
network of secret passages known as the "Underground Railroad" slaves attempted to escape to free states. This tour moderated by Dr. Kendrick Eshleman, a direct descendant of Madame Ferree, took us to some of the houses and sites that operated in the Paradise and Lancaster area. There was a stop in Christiana to visit the museum there and view the monument commemorating the Christiana riots. |
Social, Program, Banquet - July 27th |
A pre-dinner social gathering was held where a play was presented depicting certain historical events pertaining to Madame Ferree. Under the direction of Donna Jernigan, the cast was made up of Ferree "cousins" who were attending the reunion and volunteered to participate. Dinner followed and a door prize drawing closed the evening. |
"Pot Luck" Indoor Picnic - July 28th |
This was a fun afternoon of socializing and "togethering". Held at the Paradise Community Park, there were games, lunch, a short business meeting, and an auction. |
