Queen Anne of England was sympathetic to the plight of the Palatine Huguenots.

She extended an invitation to all to come to England for colonization in America. The Ferree family, hearing of the Queen's invitation and the stories of William Penn and his land, traveled to England seeking a life in the New World.
There is a Ferree tradition that says during a visit arranged by William Penn, Madame Ferree so impressed Queen Anne she approved the land grant, gave permission to colonize, provided farming implements and paid the family's passage to America.

About Queen Anne . . .
- Born February 6, 1665 the second daughter of Anne Hyde and James, Duke of York, who later became James II.
- Spent her infancy and early childhood in England and France. Her mother died when she was six years old. Raised as a proper Protestant although her father and stepmother were Catholic.
- Described as being short, stout, having poor vision and a serious case of smallpox when she was 12 years old. She suffered with a blood disease, gout and poor health all her life.
- Married George, Prince of Denmark. Had seventeen pregnancies that ended in miscarriages or stillborns. One child, Willliam, lived to become the Duke of Gloucester, but died at the age of 11.
- James II had a brief reign after his brother, Charles II died. He was exiled over fear he would return England to Catholicism. Anne's sister, Mary, and her husband, William of Orange, then held the throne. There was a very strained relationship between the sisters. After Mary died, followed by William, the throne passed to Anne.
- Became the Queen of England, Scotland, and Ireland on March 8, 1702, at the age of 37. Became the first Sovereign of the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707. Ruled for 12 years and 5 months; the first married Queen to rule; and the last of the Stuart Monarchs.
- Died August 1, 1714, aged 49, and is buried in Westminster Abbey.
