When Thomas Henry Ferree was thirteen years old, the family moved from Pittsburgh to a farm in Penn Township, Pennsylvania. His father later purchased another farm then known as "The Caldwell Place" near Jeannette in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Thomas grew up learning to farm and trained for agricultural pursuits. In 1891, a few weeks after his marriage to Minnie B. Shearer, he and his bride settled on "The Old Altman Farm" near Adamsburg six miles west of Greensburg in Westmoreland County. The farm consisted of nearly one hundred acres and out buildings. He enlarged the house and fitted it with steam heating apparatus. He established a dairy, delivered milk, and also set out peach and plum orchards which proved very productive.

Thomas Henry Ferree, son of McDonough Ferree and Mary E. Chadwick, was born December 13, 1868, in Pittsburgh and died February 3, 1914. Lineage: Thomas Henry Ferree & Minnie B.
