Marie Ferree Diary - Printemps (Spring)
springbanner

My favorite time of year is le Printemps. It is much the same here as soon it is in my former homeland weather wise. The wild flowers are popping out of the ground. The trees are blossoming and the birds are chirping away saying welcome Spring! Our first spring festival will take place in the next few weeks.

In France spring officially starts on March 20 and ends on June 20. There are many celebrations taking place and the city becomes alive with all the festivities going on.

As our community grows we have a lot more going on year round that brings our community together. I have seen a lot of progress over the past years. We now have a general store and small post office, church and school house. Although I have never sewed, I treated myself to some yard goods and I am attempting to make a dress for myself. I was used to going into a millinery and purchase the finest. I had many fine silk dresses as Daniel was in the silk business. Now it is calico or wool depending on the season. No silk finery was worth having under the circumstances which we were living. Despite the sacrifices, I am happy and content with my life at this time. Joyeux Printemps!
