Cough Syrup Recipe

"It is part of the cure to wish to be cured". Unknown

One of the activities during our Reunion 2007 was a tour in the Paradise, PA area of old Ferree homesteads and historical sites. Included was a stop at the Lancaster County Historical Society to view the Lefevre Bible. Enroute to the Historical Society, our guide mentioned a recipe for cough syrup that could be found in the Bible. Below is a photo of that recipe in the Bible.

coughreceipe

Translation:

1/2 pint of honey

1/2 pint of wine vinegar

2 tablespoons full of ginger

and 3 worth of alicompain

Mix the above articles together and put the composition in a bottle, cork it tight. Inclose the bottle with the stuff in a loaf of bread, put it in the oven and let it remain for three hours.

Take a teaspoon full in the morning, noon, and evening.
